Native Plants of New England

(A brief description of this website)

Introduction: The inspiration for this website arose out of the goodness, kindness, and dedication of the administrators and members of the Facebook group 'Native Plants of New England'. Each and every one of you were more than happy to share your knowledge of plants with those of us that found ourselves in need of a little help, myself included. All of you have graciously passed your knowledge on to others; now, I am able to pass something forward, something that will hopefuly aide those who are beginning their journey into the wonderful world of New England native plants.

Mission: The 'Native Plants of New England' group is shedding light onto the roles that our plants play in sustaining a healthy environment. As our native plants decline, so too do the insect populations that have evolved with them, and, in turn, so too will the birds and other creatures that have grown to depend on these insects and plants for survival. For these reasons, and many others, we greatly encourage homeowners, those who are in charge of private landscaping projects, and those who head our public parks and recreation areas to seriously consider the bountiful benefits of growing our precious native plants, which in turn, will benefit the creatures that depend on them, mankind included.

Acknowledgements: Many a time I had taken a photograph of a plant having no idea as to what it may be. This occurs a little less frequemtly these days, but it still does happen. Identifying a plant is only the beginning. If the plant in question is something that you would like to see growing in your yard there are other factors that need to be taken into consideration; sun exposure, moisture needs, height, soil type, is it native?, and other needs that may be specific to the plant in question. I required a great deal of help over the years trying to find the answers to many of the afore mentioned criteria; below is a list of the most notable websites and books that I used to gather the information for this site:
